2017 Commissioners Meeting
In an effort to clean up my community, I presented the results of my recent TRASH-a-thon and petition to my County Commissioners. At the beginning of this meeting, I was a little nervous, but by the end, I felt confident that they would listen. I knew how important it was to talk about actions that need to be taken to clean up our community. I talked slowly enough for them to hear; I included lots of data; and I showed them that other people support me and my ideas.
These are the seven actions I proposed to my Commissioners:
- Organize volunteer groups to pick up trash off dirt roads
- Place “No litter” signs along our roadways, in our parks, and at boat ramps
- Educate people about the importance of picking up trash
- Put more trash cans where people go
- Make it mandatory that people get there household and business trash picked up, so it doesn’t end up dumped on our roadways and at our boat ramps
- Provide more opportunities for County residents to get rid of larger items, like old furniture, tires, and electronics
- Increase enforcement on illegal dumping
After doing my speech I am a tiny bit nervous on the subject, but I do think this problem will be solved. I feel that with the help of other members of my community, including the many people who came to the Commissioners Meeting to support me, we will be able to make our community a better, safer, and cleaner place for everyone.
