2013 Trash for Turtles
Posted On January 16, 2016
I and my younger sister first began “Trash for Turtles” in early 2013.
From January to March of that year, we conducted five road clean-ups near our home. Even the cold weather couldn’t stop us!
We raised a total of $161.60 this year, which included donations and money from recycling 86 lbs of aluminum cans.
In April, we presented our project, along with the funds we raised, to Ms. Katie Higgins at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC) at Jekyll Island, Georgia.
The great people at the GSTC took us “behind the scenes” to see several of the sea turtle and diamondback terrapin patients, including a green sea turtle named Cadet…
…and a loggerhead sea turtle named Hugue.
