My Trip to the State Capitol
What a way to end this year’s “Trash for Turtles” project! Last week, my family and I went to Atlanta to give a speech to the Georgia DNR Commissioner Mark Williams and other natural resource leaders. You may think that was a long way to go for just 30 minutes, but I had one of my best experiences so far. Just think about this: I got to go to the 12th floor with a great view of the Capitol AND I gave my best speech yet! I stood behind the podium; I made sure to look up after a little bit; and I kept the paper below my face. I did not even stumble over some of the words. Mr. Mark Williams thought I did a good job, too.
Afterwards, Mr. Williams gave us a private tour of the Capitol building. Did you know that the statue on top of the Capitol building is not the Statue of Liberty? They look alike, but her name is Miss Freedom and she is holding a sword instead of a tablet. The Georgia State Capitol is sooooo beautiful! Guess what we even got to do? Go into Nathan Deal’s (our governor’s) office and take a picture (check it out below)!
We still have lots of work to do, but with your help and the help of our local and state leaders, I know we will be able to make a difference!
