Embracing Clean Energy

Do you know what global warming is? Global warming is when gasses like carbon dioxide trap heat like a blanket. As we continue to add these gases to the atmosphere, the Earth will get hotter and hotter. If this keeps continuing, what kind of Earth will we leave our next generations? We will leave them dealing with more natural disasters, more diseases, higher water levels, and more extinctions of animals and plants. We will be leaving a hot mess!

How can we help prevent this?!

We need clean energy! Clean energy is a term that means any power source that does not harm the environment. For example, windmills and solar panels make power from wind and the sun.

The solar panel uses energy from the sun and stores it like a battery, creating energy. The wind pushes the windmill and makes it turn, creating energy.

This summer, I went on a trip with my mother to Europe to celebrate my 10th birthday. We went to Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands (just the airport but who can say they’ve been to the Amsterdam Airport?!). There, we saw many different ways people are making use of clean (or cleaner) energy sources. We saw lots of windmills and solar panels, but here are a few of the other things we saw.

This is an electric car charging station. It is free to charge electric cars in Norway!
This was in Legoland Billund (Denmark) where you could turn the handle to power the fountains.
This is a “waste-to-energy” power plant with a ski ramp on top of it in Copenhagen.
This is where you could bike to make energy to charge your phone. We found this in the Amsterdam Airport.

Let’s all work together to use more clean energy everywhere!
