Back On Sapelo

On June 15th, I went out with Mr. Mark Dodd from the Georgia DNR Coastal Resources Division to Sapelo Island to help with their annual sea turtle nesting survey. Sadly, no new nests were made over night, but we did do something really cool. Did you buy a bracelet or a stainless steel straw set for my 2018 Trash for Turtles project? All of the money raised went towards purchasing game cameras for Georgia DNR and the Satilla River Water Trail Partnership. Here is some of that money put into action, as we installed the first of four game cameras on Sapelo Island!

With these game cameras, biologists will be able to gather more information on what is harming sea turtle nests and newly hatched sea turtles. This first game camera we put down is on a nest with lots of activity from predators. I even got to write my name on the marker! Mr. Mark called me “Hannah the Turtle Warrior.” I think that’s a great nickname!I had a great time and I learned so many things from Mr. Mark Dodd! Thank you so much, Mr. Mark Dodd, for everything you do for me and the turtles. You are such an AWESOME person!
