Take the Mahi Sweep Challenge!
***UPDATE: The Mahi Sweep Challenge is over, with a total of 709 lbs of trash removed from waterways throughout Southeast Georgia. Thank you to everyone who participated. Every little bit counts!***
One of my goals for my 2019 Trash for Turtles project is to clean up my community – and inspire others to do the same! That is why I am doing a “Mahi Sweep” Challenge! From October 2018 to May 2019, my family and I are committing to seven river “trash fishing” events, but why stop there? Why not inspire as many people as possible from all over Georgia and the country to pick up trash where they live and prevent it from being swept into our waterways and injuring wildlife? That’s where the challenge comes in! I hope this will show that each of us, when working together, can make a big difference!
Are you ready to take the challenge?
Here are the rules:
- Get outside and pick up trash wherever you live.
- Estimate the weight of trash picked up.
- Take a picture (optional)
- Use our Earth Inspired Kids contact form to send us the weight of trash picked up, city and state where it was picked up, and anything else you would like to add, pictures included!
- We will add you to our “Mahi Sweep” Challenge Hall of Fame, right here…PLUS, if you give us your address, we’ll send you a cool sticker, too!
So, grab your friends and family, talk to your local civic groups, or just enjoy some quiet time alone outside. We can all do our part to make the world a cleaner, better place to live!
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. ~Margaret Mead
