YOCS Mini-grant: Trash for Turtles Outreach Project

I am so excited to announce that my Trash for Turtles Outreach Project was selected for a 2020 Youth Ocean Conservation Summit mini-grant!

This project is part of an ongoing project that focuses on raising money for Georgia organizations involved with marine conservation, educating my community about marine debris issues, and conducting local clean ups.

Are you a leader in a local youth organization or school and would like to have me speak to your group? Whether it is a school club, Girl Scouts, 4H, or any other group, I want to hear from you! I am willing to do either an in-person or virtual event. My goal is to do at least three events and reach 50 or more kids. If you are interested, please get in touch with me using this contact form.

During each presentation, I will explain the importance of marine ecosystems, how our actions impact these ecosystems, and ways we can work together to help protect them and the wildlife that live there. This presentation will be interactive through a slideshow, as well as an underwater ROV demonstration to show how this can be solved by creative ideas and technology.

Plus (and here is the really cool part!), I will be able to give away free “Love. Protect. Save.” t-shirts to some of the kids who attend each session! I think of my shirts as seeds, because they can help kids start a conversation with other kids or adults and inspire them to help clean up our community and protect important marine species down river. My project will directly support the Caretta Research Project and their sea turtle monitoring efforts at Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge.

This project is funded through a mini-grant from the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit. The Youth Ocean Conservation Summit empowers young conservation leaders with the knowledge, tools, and funds to launch solutions-oriented ocean conservation projects around the world.
