Friends of the Satilla River
Friends of the Satilla River is a group that organizes cleanups of the Satilla River.
My family and I had the opportunity to participate in one of their cleanups recently. It was at one of our frequently visited spots, Jamestown Landing. Unsuprisingly, there were tires and lots of cigarette butts. However, this time, someone disposed of a whole playset!
It is so heartbreaking that we have to continually pick up the same areas. It is apparent that we still have a long way to go in order to prevent this repetition. I pray that our generation can move to better alternatives, so this can stop happening.
That is why we need you! Our generation has to get involved because we need to be the turning point! If you are local, I recommend you engage in cleanups with the Friends of the Satilla and other groups. They have all the supplies: gloves, trash bags, and grabbers. All you need to do is show up! You can follow the Friends of the Satilla and find out about upcoming scheduled cleanups through their Facebook page.
It is crucial, now more than ever, that you help! Let’s get that trash away from our rivers and out of our oceans!
