February Clean Up!
This month, many of our local boat ramps were flooded due to all of the recent rainfall. This made finding areas for a clean up a bit more difficult, but I was determined to find something. Thanks to my dad, I discovered Lake Lindsay Grace, a popular spot for enjoying fishing, playing on the water, and spending time with friends and family. Sadly, many people have littered despite the many trash cans surrounding the area. Water from this lake eventually makes its way to the Satilla River and then Atlantic Ocean, making the trash even more harmful to the aquatic organisms downstream. As a result, my family and I set out to clean up all three boat ramps and near the dam. Unsurprisingly, a majority of the items we found were cans and bottles. Also, we found that multiple people had lost their shoes! In all, we picked up three full garbage bags with an estimated weight of 100 lbs.
Though I found no tires to remove this time (a rarity), we helped make this local area much more enjoyable! Next month, we plan to take part in one of the Keep Golden Isles Beautiful Marsh Madness Cleanups. The Keep Golden Isles Beautiful organization has put together a great event with 26 different cleanups throughout the month of March. I encourage you to come out to the coast and join us in keeping our marshes and oceans clean!
Wow, I’m glad you all helped clean up!
Thank you!
