April Clean Up
April 25, 2021. It was a beautiful day with bright skies and calming clouds. Many people took advantage of the weather, going down to enjoy it on our local Satilla River. I was one of them – except I wasn’t there for recreation. I was there to give back to my community.
As my final year of Trash for Turtles comes to a close, it felt only right to finish it with a clean up one of our local boat ramps, the 121 Boat Landing. I was joined by my and another local family, and we charged forward to make our boat ramp a clean one! We found a lot of the usual items: cans, plastic bags, and cigarette butts. To my delight, we also found multiple tires, so I took part in rolling those all the way to our pile. (It’s a kid thing.) My dad and I also found some diapers full of yuck! The seven of us managed to clean up a good majority of the boat ramp and road leading to the ramp, and collect a large bag of cans to be recycled. Go team!
I am so thankful to the family who came out to help us. It looks like easy work, but even in nice weather, clean ups are tough! I am also grateful for the Pierce County government for partnering with me to pick up the trash we piled up.
AND thank you for reading! You’re turtley awesome!
Great work!
