Annual Jamestown Landing Clean Up
On Saturday, September 21st, a total of eleven different clean ups took place along the Satilla River. One of these clean ups took place at the Jamestown boat landing where I was the site leader. There, we had only four volunteers, but we were mighty! We collected seven tires, a pipe, siding from a house, a piece of a toilet (yuck!), and a VHS tape! We also found many cigarette butts. While doing our clean up, we also spotted a Carolina Mantis and many Golden Silk Spiders! At another landing, my friends also helped, which was very cool! All of these clean ups were organized by the Satilla Riverkeeper. Here is a cool summary of the event, if you’d like to learn more.
In this article, Laura Early, our Satilla Riverkeeper, asked “Can we as a society and individuals change our habits to create less waste in the first place?” If people are willing to reduce the amount we use, then it has no chance of ending up in our rivers and oceans. My friend and I’s new project is aimed at reducing the amount of single use products people use, so it doesn’t have that chance. We have to keep you in the dark for a little longer, so we can figure out the details, but we will announce it soon (I know the suspense must be killing you)!
Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the upcoming project announcement! Special thanks to Ms. Laura Early and the Satilla Riverkeeper organization for all they do for our Satilla River!
I’m glad that so many people volunteered to clean up the river! It’s so cool that you saw some neat creatures!
I think cleaning up the river is so much fun because I am cleaning up the river, but also so I can see so many creatures like the mantis and the spider.
