Can Tabs!
Trash for Turtles has evolved through the years. But one thing that has stayed constant throughout this project is collecting and recycling aluminum cans. Since 2013, I have collected and recycled over 2700 lbs of aluminum to support different conservation groups. One thing you may not know is that I recycle the can tabs, too!
These tabs go to The Ronald McDonald House in Jacksonville for their Pop It & Drop It program. They collect and recycle can tabs, which helps them raise $5,000/yr. This money is used to help provide lodging for families with sick children getting treatment at a nearby hospital. Other Houses accept can tabs, too, so check the one closest to you.
All year long, we collect our can tabs and encourage others to do the same. Every time we drink a coke, we take off the can tab and place it in a jar we leave on the counter, like this.
This is a great idea to start in your home or school. Not only can you help make the world a cleaner place by recycling, you can also help families with sick children.
Wow, that’s amazing! Thanks for donating so many tabs!
