February’s Read-a-thon Books Review

Thanks to the sponsors of this month’s read-a-thon, I was able to read three great children’s books and raise another $208 for the Caretta Research Project!

The first, 10 Reasons to Love a Sea Turtle by Catherine Barr, describes 10 fun facts about sea turtles that can truly fascinate the reader. For example, did you know turtles cry? Along with the great illustrations, Barr really shows how great sea turtles are!

The next, Where Should Turtle Be? by Susan Ring, is an adorable story about a little sea turtle journeying to find its true home, the ocean. Though real sea turtles would really never make it to a forest, Ring shows how sea turtles have unique adaptations for their environment. Also, the double page-wide drawings are just so cute!

Finally, this month I read Follow the Moon Home by Philippe Cousteau! In this picture book, we follow along with Vivienne as she is introduced to loggerhead sea turtles. For an assignment, she must come up with a community service project. In her new town, she learns that sea turtles are being distracted by the lights and holes on the beach. She decides to make a change. I love how this book brings to light that children can make a difference but not without hands on work!

I loved all of these books, and I recommend them to any age! Again, thank you to everyone who sponsored these pages. Every dollar counts toward my $10,000 goal! Everyone who sponsored these books was given the opportunity to enter a drawing for a free Trash for Turtles t-shirt or bracelet, and the opportunity to choose a local library where I will donate a copy of these books for others to read. And our first winner is…

If you didn’t win but would like to buy a t-shirt ($10) or bracelet ($6), you can purchase them directly on my fundraising page. All sale proceeds through May 1, 2021 will also go to the Caretta Research Project.

Or try your luck again with our next read-a-thon which will take place in March. I look forward to reading the next book, Fire in the Turtle House by Osha Gray Davidson, for Read-a-thon #3!

Happy reading and thank you for being turtley awesome! 🙂
