We Lit 7 Candles for Sea Turtles!

As of August 31, 2023, the Sixteen Candles for Turtles Project is officially over. The final total was $715.20 for the Caretta Research Project to support their sea turtle work at Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge. This means we lit 7 candles in all, and that not only includes monetary donations but also money from recycling about 100 pounds of aluminum cans!

Also, part of this year’s project included a raffle for two signed matted sea turtle prints provided by underwater photographer Christina Richards. For each $5 donated, supporters were given one entry for the drawing. On August 31, I drew for the winners. Here’s the video below so you can see our winners, in all the suspense of a live Facebook drawing!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to present the money to the Caretta Research Project’s Executive Director Kris Carroll.

I am so grateful for all the support and donations that I received for this project. To be able to support this amazing research and marine conservation work was the best way to celebrate my 16th birthday. Thank you to everyone who donated and celebrated along with me. It means so much to me, and it certainly means a lot to the turtles 🙂
